There is an awesome presentation making the rounds (both Fred Wilson and AlleyInsider picked it up) called Digital Strangelove (or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Internet) The premise of the presentation is in title but one slide in particular caught my eye:
Slide 54: We are dealing with raw expression not altered by its delivery method (i.e. its medium)
Slide 121: ‘If I tell my Facebook friends about your brand, it is because I like my friends - not because I like your brands”
My two cents on this…
It’s no longer about disrupting the user experience (think :30 TV spot). People have become accustomed to expressing themselves online. For a brand - you are not going to get credit for just about showing up anymore. You are going to get credit for coming in and adding something of value (ding ding +1 for marketing buzzword) to the conversation.
