Continuations: Talent Agency for Engineers and Product Managers?
With so much infrastructure to build on, we are seeing smaller and smaller teams achieve amazing things. The combination of someone with a great product sense and one or two exceptional engineers can build and launch a new product or service. Many startups prove this every day. And the various accelerator programs such a YCombinator and TechStars have done a terrific job promoting the entrepreneurial opportunity that this represents. But what about folks who are awesome but don’t want to go the route of having their own startup? There might be an opportunity that’s quite different from the existing recruiting model in which someone represents engineering and product talent in more of an agency model. The biggest challenge would be the cash flow because most of the upside would be in getting a small cut of equity from placing the teams which might take a long time before it results in any liquidity. So it would have to be someone who is in a position to be quite patient. But over time this could grow to become quite powerful.
You also have business side talent (marketing, sales, finance) who have ideas that need help with implementation. Services like oDesk and Elance have started down this path, though finding a rockstar is like finding a needle in the haystack. Def. an awesome opportunity here as there is demand on both sides…
